Pope Francis washed the feet of Muslim, Christian and Hindu refugees on Holy Thursday as part of Easter rituals declaring them children from the same God emphasising solidarity between different faiths.
The Easter ritual was done at a refugee shelter in Castelnuovo di Porto outside Rome.
Eight men and four women including four Nigerian catholics participated in the ritual.
The Pontiff at a mass held with the refugees denounced the terorist attack carried out in Brussels as a gesture of war carried out by blood thirsty individuals.
The washing of feet is a re-enactment of the washing ritual Jesus performed on his apostles before he was crucified.
"We have different cultures and religions but we are brothers and we want to live in peace", Pope Francis declared in his Homily.
Several of the migrants overcome with emotion wept as the Pontiff knelt before them, poured holy water from a brass pitcher over their feet, wiped them clean and then kissed them.
